These locos are in the design stage.
We are asking for input from anyone that has knowledge of these models.

Canadian Model Railroaders. Bowser is designing this model Canadian. We are not making the EMD version and just making a few changes. This is designed from the ground up as GMD built.

Here is the second set of engineering drawings for our all new GMD SD 40-2. I am asking for any input about these designs. If you spot something we have missed or have incorrect please contact me at bowser@bowser-trains.com. If you do have corrections please include proof. Just saying that you know is not enough. I need photos or documents.

The Road number is used to identify the group with the same body details. Please do not comment on paint schemes yet. We are only designing the actual body at this time. There are no ditch lights on any locos yet. They will be added with the next batch of changes. Thank you to Trains Canada ™ and to Fred Clark for a wonderful book "Volume One: Canadian Pacific SD40 & SD40-2s - Acquired New"

Building a CN SD60F "Zebra Barn" model

(By Daniel Dell’Unto)

Here's just a quickie look at a model or two I'm working on, for the modelers out there. These are HO-scale resin shell kits made by Kaslo Shops, designed to fit on a commercial chassis (I use that term loosely, they often require quite a few modifications to fit). I recently ordered a pair (an SD40-2F for CP and SD60F for CN) from Grant Eastman at Southern Alberta Rail, who commissioned the SD40-2F kit. They can be sometimes found on eBay for sale, some available by SAR, Custom Trains Canada, or possibly direct from Kaslo (although their site seems to be under construction). (Prototype photo by Frank Rizzo)

I'm building the SD60F right now for someone enthusiastic about CN Canadian cowl units, and have the SD40-2F in reserve for someone else who wants a CP 9020. I've also got a Kaslo F59PH as a rainy day project (also pictured, requires more chassis work and some body corrections). These aren't for beginners!

Photos show:

CN SD60F_1 - The kits fresh from the mail
SD60F_2 - Cleaning the resin parts with a special resin mold release cleaner from Sylivan Scale Models. Etched stainless steel parts and laser cut windows also included, but not shown here.
SD60F_3 - The basic chassis modifications to get it to fit. I also had to cut out the coupler mounts on the resin Kaslo pilots, as the couplers are designed to be body mounted, but I wanted them to mount to the frame.
SD60F_4 - Trimmed the inside numberboard areas a bit smaller, according to photos.
SD60F_5 - Built up the Q-fans. Very delicate etched stainless steel parts, I had to make a modification or two.
SD60F_6 - Notching the coupler boxes to fit the chassis and clear the truck swing
SD60F_7 - Plow modifications. Widened the Kaslo plows as they were too narrow, and added some "trim". Top one is for the SD40-2F, bottom SD60F
SD60F_8 - The SD60F partially assembled and mounted on the chassis. Still quite a bit of work to do before painting. This one will be either 5531 or 5539 as the Kaslo kit comes with the ribbed engine roof style found on the SD50F by error, but some SD60F's had it swapped on later on. (Kaslo offers both the SD50F and SD60F as separate kits).

More to come at a later date...

As time warrants, Dan will work on this GO Transit F59PH shell, Phase 1 unit likely to be GO 520! Cheers, Daniel Dell’Unto.
