Will,
In your article on AMF / Alstom, there is a mention that a number of pieces at Exporail /Canadian Railway Museum were painted there. This is an error.
A painter, who did worked at AMF / Alstom, also did contract work and did in fact paint a number of pieces like CNR 6765, 9400, 3684, CP 4563, 4744, 3618 (mail express), Neville and Sydney & Louisbourg #4. Work was completed on the museum’s site.
You also indicated that a number of former SOO SD60 (the early group) were to be scrapped. I attached the following shot (By Megan Salter) of at least 4 of them heading for Juniata Shops to be rebuilt for CIT Leasing. Apparently, once rebuilt, they would be leased to various railroads of the G&W family.
Keep up the good work.

Bonjour Len
It was back in the mid-late 1990’s, I was told bu an ALSTOM employee the three CNR MLW's on display at EXPORAIL (FA1, FPA4 and RS18), were all painted at ALSTOM by EXPORAIL volunteers m and by a group of CNR fans that were employed at ALSTOM. The paint jobs are so professional looking .... I simply believed him!
Thank you for correcting us!

The painter in question did work for Alstom, and some of his helpers also assisted. He did this as an extra sideline. He’s still in the business – he works @ CAD now. Volunteers helped on some of the projects, like prep and other project-related jobs.

Hi all,
When submitting your new photos to CRO, please use this format in the Subject line:
CRO NOVEMBER – then the “SUBJECT” written here.
Many of you reply to me with the same email with new items attached, which I never see. It gets confusing … Thanks
It is simple If you have any New Items? … PLEASE Create a NEW EMAIL SUBJECT LINE!
Walter Pfefferle who was paramount in designing the modern look of CRO on line, improving the appearance (dropping the pdf format), and convenience of viewing the sections, before Mike Robin added the index Buttons currently used, has suggested some interesting ideas for our home page and offered to assist CRO as a Web consultant , with my appreciation.
As our new webmaster gets comfortable with his responsibilities we will be updating everyone’s passwords. For now, to make it easy for our subscribers … no password is required to access CRO. This will change at some point however.
CANADIAN RAILWAY OBSERVATIONS (CRO) is also on FACEBOOK and you may also post your photos there. Just include a caption (Date Location etc) with each post. We have been on Facebook for about six years, and have over 6000 Fans! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Canadian-Railway-Observations-CRO/287488550757?fref=ts
The mission of CRO remains the same: to keep CRO readers informed of pertinent Canadian train news, which is compiled and verified over the month, and updated as needed. The accurate information we post each month is obtained and confirmed from our reliable sources. CRO is also a vehicle to showcase beautiful locomotive shots submitted by our readers, credit them, and help promote their photography. We never post photos, without asking the photographer for permission, and once granted, they are given free CRO access for as long as this sharing relationship continues. The same goes for our valued news sources. This arrangement has worked out well for 10 years!
As our “Vignette” segments are very popular with our readers, please continue to submit railroad photos from the past, and send along suggestions for future Vignette subjects, and ideas for CRO Special Reports.
Take care all,
William H. Baird
