Chris McMahon sent us this interesting report:
Just came across this interesting kijiji from a colleague, an add of ex VIA budd car 6202, once owned by the now bankrupt Industrial Rail services inc, once labelled the "prototype" as their first rebuilt budd car which in turn won them the contract to rebuild 6 Budd cars for VIA... for those who were there at the shops on the day the multi-million dollar contract announcement, this was the same Budd car operating around and into the shops, and used for the via safety day rides for the families and kids... just thought id share this rare kijiji find (Chris McMahon).
Their two SD40-2W’s (DESX 5306 and 5309) that had been dumping ballast all summer on the Huron Central Railway’s Webbwood Subdivision as part of the HCRY track upgrade project returned to the Diesel Electric Services Shop in the Sudbury Yard in November. The work trains are done for this season. (Photos by Ken Reiss)
The first week of November, Ken noted the CP track geometry train has been sitting in the Sudbury Yard for over a week after arriving with CP GP38-2 3104 as power. However, while the TEC train was inactive and parked , CP temporarily MU'd her with a Sudbury assigned GP9u to augment their yard power.
A classic GE 80-tonner was photographed by Ken Reiss sitting outside the Diesel Electric Services shop in Sudbury, Ontario on October 23, 2013. Built in April 1953 as Falconbridge Nickle Mines 107, she is now looking sharp as DESX 107 painted in Diesel Electric's black and blue stripe scheme.
DESX GP10 8308 (ex-IC nee-Mid South Rail) was leased to the Great Sandhills Railway for service in August. DESX also leased LTEX GP15-1 1450 from Larry’s Truck Electric, and then in August LTEX sub-leased the loco out to Richardson International, an industry in Saskatchewan.
Units stored in Sudbury on DESX property include: (DESX) SD40-2W 5308, 5310, 5311, 5312, 5313, and SD40-2 5391.

Modoc Rail Academy has sold its GG20B "Green Goat" hybrid to Cloquet Terminal Railroad of Cloquet, MN (a little west of Duluth). Renumbered CTRR 2608, the locomotive moved north sans its large "Modoc" lettering on the long hood at the end of last month. It is shown here in Antelope, CA earlier this year awaiting transfer to MRA's new facility in Marion, IL.
While on my way back into Chicago from New York, I happened to stumble upon Ohio Locomotive Works' latest creation, a Tier 4-compliant Lean and Green switcher for Northern Indiana Public Service Co. (NIPSCO). Numbered MF-13, this 1,050 (thanks, Jack) hp MTU rebuild is moving as NORX 1370, which should be its former unit number. This is headed for NIPSCO's Bailly generating station in Chesterton, IN. Again, thanks to Jack Siffert for the edits and corrections, at Whiting, IN.
