MODEL WORK of RIC HAMILTON

Ric Hamilton of Berwick, Nova Scotia painted up these two HO scale GE C40-8's (CN 2121 and 2116), into the CN patch paint scheme which were in service circa-2012-2014.  Nice work Ric.

MODEL WORK of ROB ARSENAULT

Rob's beautiful CP RAIL C424 4235 with an oily and accurate looking weathering job representing how the early narrow stripes paint scheme would appear in  the very late 1970's on a hard working MLW.

The old CP RAIL "Orange Peel" paint appearance on SD40-2's  was pretty common  at Montreal St-Luc diesel Shop and on the D&H in the first and second decade under CP ownership.  Here Rob applied the chippy-look to the Bowser SD40-2 giving it a very accurate worn out appearance.

This particular Bowser has a new look; rock pilot, dashed stripes and a new road number (courtesy Joe Domeij of Canadian Locomotive Creations from Camrose). I took his pristine work, and clobbered it at the owner's request. What do you think?

A former CP MLW RS-23 "Rocket" on the Windsor and Hantsport Railway with a fresh WHRC patch, on the faded ex-CP Rail Action Red paint.

After heavy Alco weathering was applied, the "WHRC Rocket" looks just right!

Rob also completed some railcars like this big SOO LINE Pullman Standard Covered Hopper with very realistic rust weathering.

Grain Hopper ALPX 628270 in the Alberta Heritage Fund blue with realistic weathering and even a nasty yard sideswipe!

Compare to the prototype:

A weathered pair of Canada painted  "CNWX" grain cars.

A SOO LINE Pullman Standard covered hopper adorned with Graffiti.

Rob completed this pair of rusted hard working CP Rail Gondolas that have spent many years in service.

Rob enjoyed weathering up this HO Scale model of a  CP RAIL Action Yellow cupola caboose which the prototype railroad built themselves using old CP box cars ,  These were common on CP in the 1970's in mainline service. This project was done for a friend in Calgary.

A CP Smooth side Covered Hopper with bleached weathering.

Rob was Playing around trying to weather  some CP grain hoppers this week. Here is CP 385413 looking very road weary! They are far too stark and clean out of the box (IMHO).

MODEL WORK of TOM POESCHEL

Here is Tom's completed GTW GP9R 4619 now fully weathered! He's very happy with how this unit came out. It is a Proto 2000 GP9 that's been completely overhauled and super detailed to create a model of this unique unit.  Tom built it for a friend (Jeff Steel), where it will work had on his layout. Tom blog post www.motownmodels.weebly.com has information showing tons of in-depth photos and a parts list.

Classic Rail Cars seen in Canada in this group, taken by, or part of the photo collection of my Fathers friend Bill Grandin.  These were scanned for CRO by their mutual friend James Parker, with our thanks.   Sadly my Father Bill Baird Sr. and Bill Grandin are no longer with us, but Bill was a prolific photographer and shot anything and everything in his travels,  including Freight Cars. These are all from his collection.

One of my favourites of course is gorgeous D&H 50-foot box car 29220 in Toronto at CP Agincourt Yard in the 1970's.  This photo has significance for me as I own Bill Grandin's two HO Scale models of this car which he built for himself, and my dad back in the 1970's.  He used two AHM 40' box cars to create it and built his own Panel doors.  They feature Walthers Shock Control Couplers and cushion underframes too.

Fabulous looking SOUTHERN outside ribbed extended height Hi Cube Box with super Shock Control draft gear!

A very long 70-foot plug door box car (NADX 60508) is lettered for Engelhard Minerals and Chemicals

60-foot Auto Parts car (NYC 54195) was shot in Oshawa, Ontario in 1968

New York Central 4-Door 86-foot Hi-Cube Box Car at Harrisburg, PA in March 1969. Interestingly four door 86-foot Hi-Cube box cars were for Ford products, and the eight door 86-foot Hi-Cube version were used by the GM Auto plants.

NYC 53965 is a double door 60-foot auto parts car taken in Findlay, Ohio in 1969 by Jim Parker

NYC 56105 is a Single Door 60-foot auto parts car taken in Windsor Ontario in the mid-late 1960's.  Note how this modern rail car dwarfs the Wood sheathed CN 40-footer which was in her golden years of active service!

50-Foot double door automobile box car NYC 69136 in Toronto in 1956. This very new car had end doors as well for loading/unloading!

NYC 69114 is a 40-Foot double door automobile box car that was shot in the CP Agincourt yard in Toronto, back in May 1956

Great looking double Door NYC 74788 has the large logo and black rook and ends.  What a fabulous paint scheme for a box car!

Fabulous looking NYC PACEMAKER livery on a 40-Foot car.  Aimed at attracting customers for high speed freight service, NYC ran solid trains of these in the 1940's and early 1950's.

Modernized NYC double door box car near Frontier Yard in Buffalo, NY in 1969.

A 50-foot single door box car taken in Goshen, CA in June 1968.

NW 860596 is a Four-Door 89-Foot Hi-Cube assigned to Ford service. They looked impressive in black and silver!
