William Baird's Canadian Pacific SD9043MAC and Bernard Dumenil's two CP AC4400CW's roll an empty potash hopper train over Stoney Creek Bridge on the former Canada Central Railway Club in 2009. The Locomotive models are by Kato, and the rail cars are by Intermountain HO Scale.
MODEL WORK of ROB ARSENAULT
Rob weathered-up an Athearn Genesis SD-75i as it looked circa-2014.
Here Rob attempted a bit of dust and fading on a BCR two tone green SD40-2. We like the results!
Some very realistic weathering on CP SD40-2 6049, especially around the long hood Dynamic Brake Blister which gets extremely hot!
Bowser’s HO Scale CP Rail C630M 4502 looks spectacular with typical Alco oiled up weathering!
A bit more weathering was completed on colourful blue and yellow Ontario Northland SD40-2 1734.
This one was real challenge for Rob, a ex-ONR SD40-2 in lease service; PRSX 1736.
In April Rob weathered a few rail cars too!
MODEL WORK of TOM COX
Some brilliant O Gauge modeling of LS&I and GTW locomotives! This is the gorgeous work of Tom Cox of Red Pine, an amazing modeler who can capture the prototype with incredible detail and accuracy.
This certainly makes me consider switching from HO, to O scale! (WB)
MODEL WORK of JEREMY MCPHERSON
Jeremy McPherson's HO Scale CN C40-8M 2441 and 2428 look terrific in both the stripes and newer CN paint scheme.
MODEL WORK of TIM HAYMAN
An Athearn Model? Nope! This is the new Walthers/Mainline SD70ACe. One of our club members picked one up, and I took on the task of adding details and weathering it up. I added all grabs, pilot details (MU hoses, lift bars), DPU marker light, windshield wipers, modified sunshades, and a scratchbuilt GPS antenna dome. I also painted the cab interior and added crew figures, and then weathered it up. It's still not quite accurate for a CN SD70M-2, but I think it ends up being a nice looking loco!
Tim Hayman is our VIA Rail News Editor, and therefore has also been working on detailing up one of the latest runs of Athearn P42's to better match the VIA prototype. The loco was factory painted as VIA 908, and here are some changes that he made to his model to make it more accuarate:
-pilot details
-removed HEP plug on engineer's side at front
-all underbody details
-repainted trucks and underbody equipment
-painted wipers black
-removed oversized printed gaskets around windshield
-added extra antenna and emergency horn
-removed cast grills and added S&S etched metal ones
-filled in sand filler hatches on rear
-painted handrails grey
-added extra HID headlight
-weathering, particularly on the roof.
He also added Loksound, and LED lighting for all the headlights and red marker lights, and added lenses as well since Athearn just has the bulbs sticking out. We like the results!
MODELLING FROM THE PROTOTYPE
Ontario Northland SD40-2 1733 wearing the latest paint scheme.
The CANADIAN NATIONAL DISPLAY TRAIN at Bellevillle, ON July 3rd, 1971
All these
NAR boxcars were 52ft 8in, not 50ft. Brand new Northern Alberta Railways 50-foot Double Door Box Cars in the mid-1970's. These looked great with yellow painted trucks! In 1981, Canadian National bought out CP Rail's interest in the Northern Alberta Railways, acquiring full control of NAR railroad. CN also took over the trackage, rolling stock, and the NAR locomotive fleet. Note the very odd NAR numbering starting with a "Zero" |

Based in the Province of Quebec, Canadair was a civil and military aircraft manufacturer in Canada. Made up of several aircraft manufacturers, the nationalized corporation was privatized in 1986, and became the core of Bombardier Aerospace. Canadair were most famous for their Water bombers (Wiki) Canadair's origins lie in the foundation of a manufacturing centre for Canadian Vickers in the Montreal suburb of Saint-Laurent, at Cartierville Airport. The Canadair Plant One building is still there, but the airport section no longer exists. |
