CAD Railway Services (Lachine, QC) are continuing their contract to overhaul 26 SOO SD60’s and four SD60M's to Tier 0+ compliance, equip them with AESS (Locomotive Automatic Engine Start/Stop) to conserve fuel, and repaint and renumber to CP 6200-series. The entire rebuilt SD60 fleet will receive (PTC) Positive Train Control modifications at the CP St-Luc Diesel Shop.

On January 20th, Jay Butler was first to catch CP 6231 fresh out of CAD trailing behind 8937 on CP 235 in Tilbury, ON.
Richard Marchi clicked all three SOO unserviceable new arrivals for CARAIL together at St-Luc Diesel Shop on December 23rd.

The last VIA F40PH-2d 6453 was released November 20th from CAD Railway Services, concluding the VIA F40-series rebuild program on schedule. However, the previous rebuild released from CAD in mid- November VIA 6440 experienced operating problems in December and was returned dead-in-tow to CAD for repairs. Following repairs, CSXT SD70ACe 4832 was returned to home rails, and CITX SD40-2 2804 (a former UP unit previously leased to CP was returned to the USA.
Enroute to CADRAIL: At press time, CP GP38-2 3027 was in transit from Winnipeg, MB to CAD Railway Services in Lachine, QC for complete overhaul and repaint
Other Locomotives noted at the CADRAIL in January: CP SD60 6242 for warranty repairs. CP GP9u 8219 (SUS at St-Luc Yard since July 31st 2012, and being repaired). CEFX SD9043MAC 105, 118, 136 CEFX GP20D 2017 and 2026 VIA F40PH-2d 6440.
RBRX F59PH 18554 and 18558 have been stored outside for several months and have likely became parts sources. One of them was being cut up onsite January 2013. CSXT SD70ACe 4832 was not seen and presumed to be off the property. RBRX F59PH 18554 18537, and 18538 stored outside for several months, became parts sources and will be scrapped onsite. RBRX 18554 is seen missing parts, and being cut up January 20th.
VIA sleeper 8328 “Grant Manor”, is at CAD for repairs following the sideswipe by CN SD70M-2 8904 at the VIA station in Jasper, Alberta July 6th, 2010. Richard Marchi was able to click a shot of CITX 119 in her new uniform at CAD January 13th
Back in 2008. Aivo Merimets snapped CEFX 119 wearing her previous livery as CEFX 119 leading a CP westbound on the Galt Sub at Innerkip, ON.
CLN INDUSTRIES located in Charny, QC continues to refurbish the interiors of the two VIA “Park” cars and four “Chateau” sleepers . The Budd-built stainless steel cars are: VIA 8206 (Chateau Denonville), 8213 (Chateau Lauzon) and 8709 (Laurentide Park). VIA 8207 (Chateau Dollard), 8226, (Chateau Salaberry), and 8708 (Kootenay Park). CLN and Services Ferroviaires Julien have been contracted to complete the interior refurbishment, but the all the car exterior work will be done at another repair shop.
Previously at IRSI, CAD Railway Industries has been contracted to
finish the work on VIA RDC4 6250 (although it looks complete here in
Martin Brodeur’s photo below). VIA RDC4 6251, four other RDC's and
10 LRC cars are to be completed for VIA following an agreement after
the IRSI bankruptcy. VIA RDC 4 6250 was repainted and tacked on the
end of #657. Note the large K5 horn on the ends of the Budd
car.
Rebuilt Resolute Forest Products SW1200RS 1305 returned home following repairs at DESX to the Resolute Mill in Iroquois Falls, ON. Units on DESX property include: (DESX) SD40-2W 5308, 5310, 5311, 5312, 5313, and SD40-2 5391.
There has been little activity at NRE-Capreol (which is a former CN Car Shop) over the last two months. Reports suggest the Roberval - Saguenay GP38-3 (RS #62) is still at the shop incomplete.
Motive power stored at the shop in December included ex-CP SD40-2 NREX 5771 (purchased from CP in 2006) and eleven stored NREX units; (NREX) GP9 208, RS3 307, GMD1m 1141, 1149, GP9 1602, 1684, GMD1 1911, SD40-2 5567, 5619, 5620, 5644, and 5771.
Former GMDD/Caterpillar Shop switcher EMDX sw1001 #1 was purchased in November by Lambton Diesel Services (LDSX) and was the last locomotive to depart the closed EMD London plant. Lambton Diesel Services also purchased CN SW1200RS 1375, IC SW14 1501, and SW1200RSu 7316 from CN’s Auction Sale. ©CRO February 2013 |
