This Month's Feature:
When time allows as CRO Production Assistant, I am a voracious
collector of railway books. My "Off The Shelf" column will review
books and DVDs that I feel would be to the appeal of our CRO
readers.
I invite you to contact me directly with questions, and with any new
publications or DVD’s that would be of interest to our CRO readers
for “Off the Shelf”.
"Canadian National Through Passenger Service In Color - Southern
Ontario”
Kevin J. Holland’s “Canadian National Through Passenger Service In
Color - Southern Ontario” is a comprehensive photographic look at
CN’s passenger trains in Southern Ontario in the period between the
end of World War II in 1945 and the advent of VIA Rail in 1976.
While diesel’s predominate, there are a good deal of steam shots
included. From Turbo train’s to Tempo train’s to RDC’s, this book
covers all of the various equipment and motive power permutations
which were possible on the CN during the post-war period. Possibly
the most fascinating photo in the book is an FPA-4 pulling an ailing
Turbo trainset! We also get to see the shift in CN paint scheme from
the green and gold to the now famous CN noodle. For anyone with an
interest in seeing what CN passenger trains looked like during this
time period, this book is invaluable. The only issue for some is
that the book is quite pricey, with a suggested retail price of
$59.95. As with all Morning Sun Books, you pay for the high quality
of content and photos that you get.
