Last year, the Canadian Museum of Rail and Travel in Cranbrook, BC has been restoring  CP FA2 4090 and FB2 4469. This photo was taken in September 2012 by Kevin Dunk, who reports not much has changed since he took this shot, but they plan to get back at it in the spring.

Northern Ontario Railway Museum & Heritage Center - Capreol, ON   http://www.northernontariorailroadmuseum.ca/

The Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre recently secured former Temiskaming & Northern Ontario Railway locomotive #219.  Without the museum's hard work, the locomotive would have been sold for scrap.

With #219's future assured, the Museum is now in need of money to move the locomotive to Capreol, ON and to restore it.  They are part of Aviva's Community Fund and you can help without spending a penny!  Follow the links to find out how you can vote for Aviva to help fund the restoration of #219.  Voting starts today!

EXPORAIL – CRHA

http://exporail.org/en/welcome-to-exporail/

Steven Barker submitted shots of the Gresley A4 Pacific  #60000 “Dominion of Canada” getting her make over in the United Kingdom,  They show her in the works area of the Shildon Branch of the National Railway Museum. The locomotive is being restored into her original “Garter Blue” livery complete with “LNER” lettering on the tender, re-fitting of the bell, installation of the side skirts,  and original number.

Exporail will be open Saturdays and Sundays March 2nd to 31st, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  We will also be open during the week for group tours by reservation.

Special winter discounts:  A special 10% discount off the admittance fee during the month of February, 2013.

Rotary Snowplow , Until March 17, 2013

Climb aboard this enormous vehicle, along with our tour guide, and discover its history and how it operates. Built right here in Montreal by Montreal Locomotive Works, this vehicle was used by the CN between 1930 and 1960. Rotary Snowplow tours are available on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 p.m.

Railroad Jobs, weekend:

In our Grand Gallery you can experience a variety of railroad jobs. Along with our tour guide, try your hand at the brakeman’s job, learn how he coupled cars and applied the brakes. Become a car man and inspect hot boxes on a truck or a track man working on building a section of railroad track or a motorman and operate the streetcar controls. These activities are available every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. as well as at 2:30 PM

Guided tour, weekend:

Exporail offers guided tours of its permanent exhibition: Living the Canadian Railway Adventure. Come discover the great moments in the history of Canada's railroads, from the founding fathers of the Canadian railroad to the universe of railway workers, to the birth of Montreal's transit system, with its period streetcars. The tour is available in English every Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 p.m. and lasts approx. 75 minutes.

The “Dominion of Canada” has joined the “Dwight D. Eisenhower”,  and other A4 Streamlined steam locomotives at the National Railway Museum in York, in the UK. The locomotives have been shipped to the National Railway Museum for a period of two years. They will take part in the 2013 celebrations commemorating the 75th. anniversary of Mallard's world record speed run for steam.  CRO will cover this.

The “Dominion of Canada” is being cosmetically restored to ‘as built’ condition with side valences, blue livery and stainless steel numbers and lettering; its original CPR bell and whistle will also be added back. This is made possible by funding from the National Railway Museum in York, and donors in Canada.
