LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: We invite you to send your questions and comments: Email us at: editor@canadianrailwayobservations.com Hi William, Just a short note to let you know how much I appreciate receiving the monthly issue of CRO. As a new member, I was unaware this type of news was even available. I am a former railroader (Brakeman CNR 1950-1957 - Western Region) but the "ties" are still running through my veins. Thanks again, and keep 'em rolling. Best regards, Ted Sayer Prince Albert, SK Took a quick grab shot of a flatcar bearing CANAC reporting marks with two unusual loads onboard bound for Winnipeg on CN train 852 on the Togo Subdivision. Scale test cars CP 420926 and CANX (formerly GTW) 52265 were riding on flatcar CANX 61300. The car seems to be converted from a CN bulkhead flatcar and appears to have been fitted with a special ramp at one end to allow the scale cars to be offloaded. David Maiers Roblin, MB
CN PHOTOS WANTED: Hi everyone.
I'm looking for select photos of CN's F-Units that were used on the Nanticoke
steel train back in the mid 80's. I would prefer a couple pics of the actual
train for use on my cab ride DVD. Scenic shots would be nice along with some
verticals as well. Please contact me at: rmccormack@canrailvideo.ca Thanks, Rob McCormack CANRAIL VIDEO
SUBMITTING PHOTOS TO CRO? Publishing to the Internet is very different than publishing in a book or magazine. Publishers want high quality photos large in size and 400 dpi or better to make sure of high quality images in their magazine. The Internet is much more forgiving and most photos are posted at only 75 dpi and compressed to reduce their size.
Photos submitted to CRO do not have to be huge files that consume bandwidth and will be compressed into something less than 1/10th of their original size.
Email containing photos must not exceed 4 MB total size of all photos combined or our server will reject them.
Please follow the guidelines below to prevent your photos from being rejected.
· Photos should be resized to not be bigger than 500K in size. A good article on resizing photos can be found here · Photos should not be larger than 1000 X 800 in dimensions. (Minimum of 800 pixels) · Photos submitted must include photographers name, date photo was taken, location and description. · Train and engine numbers should be included where possible · Photo should be in focus and of fairly high quality (exceptions will be made for archival photos) · Photo submitted may be altered or cropped to remove unwanted borders and text to meet publishing requirements and CRO standards. · Please DO NOT put text or any descriptions on the photos as it will be removed and could result in your photo being rejected. · Acceptance of your photos does not mean they will appear in the next newsletter. CRO reserves the right to retain your photos and use in future newsletters. CRO must implement these guidelines as large photos not only take extra time to download but use excess bandwidth and use server space. All emails over 4 MB will be rejected by our server.
CRO appreciates your photo submissions as they are what makes our newsletter what it is but needs to control the time and costs of formatting and putting them online.
Thank you and we look forward to your submissions.
