CANADIAN LOCOMOTIVE SHOPS
On July 9th Geoff Williams noted the following units at EMD London: EMDX SD70ACe 1201, 1202, 1203, 1204 and 1205 which were where painted at London over the summer. These were renumbered from EMDX 2110-2114 in order 20116604A, for their new lease to CSXT. Also seen were KCS SD70ACe 4139 and five others in KCS paint, but without numbers. A few days later, Geoff noted KCS 4130 on the property, so it would appear the KCS units are to be numbered 4130-4139 and were originally EMDX 2100-2109. KCS 4138 was shot on the EMD test track August 20th.

In August, Progress Rail, a subsidiary of Caterpillar, announced they are putting more work into the former Westinghouse plant locally, and planning to hire 80 more people in upcoming months. That news came when Delaware County Commissioners handed over $950,000 in federal funds on Monday to help build a new paint facility inside the plant that manufacturers locomotives for primarily third world rail systems. The investment and extra hiring adds to the $50 million in renovation and 280 jobs now located at the plant on Cowan Road. Brad Bookout, the county's redevelopment director, explained the money from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, would help secure more work besides be an extra investment into the building. On August 22nd EMDX 1201 ws destined for the MINExpo International 2012 under wrap in Battle Creek Yard, and waiting to go out on train 393. Back in the day our beloved (GMDD) General Motors Diesel Division plant in London produced some exceptional Diesel Electric locomotives. These great photos from Stan Svihla’s collection were taken at the GMDD London test track (and elsewhere in Ontario) during the 1950’s-1980’s. NOTE: Some of the photo captions may be mislabeled, with our corrections above the photo. (Our thanks to Jim Parker for sharing these with us). Algoma Central GP38-2 202 at the ACR shop in Sault Ste.
