Between 2007 and 2010 Smiths Falls, ON was an interesting place to observe Genset's and Green Goats passing through on Canadian Pacific. These locomotives were built at Railpower in a section of the CADRAIL faculty that they leased. Bob Heathorn provided us with his great shots her shot at at the CP crew Change point at Smith's Falls Station between 2007 and 2010.
This fifth shot shows one of two National Railway Equipment (NRE) 3GS21B gensets that were built at VMV in Paducah, KY in 2008. The pair CP 2100 and 2011 tested on CP during in Ontario from 2008-2013 through Government funding by Canada EcoFreight. They were both returned to the lessor BREX in 2013
At the Ontario Northland Railway North Bay shop on February 16th, 2016 Patrick McKie shot ONR 1733 rolls onto the turn table and waits to be connected to the spreader as CN 451 sits in the back ground. ONR GP9 1605 uncouples from ONT spreader 529, as the MOW crews prep for their departure.
NREX 2690, 2734, 2735, 2754 and 2755, all ex-UP SD40M-2's, remain on the property. NREX 3GS21B 2020, NREX (ex-CP) SD40-2) 5644, and NREX (ex-CP) SD40-2 5655, are also at the facility. Stored NRE owned units on the property include: NREX GP9 208, RS3 307, GMD1m 1141, 1149, GP9 1602, 1684, GMD1 1911, SD40-2 5567, 5619, 5620, 5644, 5665, and 5771. Most have cannibalized.
Industrial Rail Services demonstrator rail diesel car No. 6202 rests with an RDC owned by Farmrail at the Industrial Rail shops on Jan. 18, 2016. The IRSI prototype, 6202 is safe for now) and is for sale. Farmrail 6130 (with brown and orange end stripes) is also safe, along with Farmrail 6118.
Most of the other RDC's once owned by Industrial Rail are earmarked for scrapping, with many of the Budd cars to be cut in half, and then trucked to the scrappers yard (Neighbourhood Recycling), in Moncton, NB. Matt Keoughan took these shots at IRSI a month ago.
Matt Keoughan reported some good news however, as six or seven of the IRSI RDC's that were to be scrapped, will now be spared. Also Jason Shron (of RAPIDO MODEL TRAINS) is trying to raise funds to move 6133 to Ontario. He is estimating it may cost $20,000. She was built in the summer of 1956 for CP Subsidiary The Dominion Atlantic Railroad, but ironically spent the last years in service at the other end of the country on Vancouver Island in VIA service!
Here is the IRSI roster as of February 14th, 2016:
BC-12 - cut in half
BC-16 - scrapped

At press time, two of the Budd cars were being cut in half, and then trucked to the scrappers yard (Neighbourhood Recycling) OF Moncton, NB. The Canadian scrap dealer will cut up a dozen stainless steel Rail Diesel Cars. Industrial Rail Services, Inc, previously owned the cars.
The first of the new STM Montreal Metro MPM 10 sets began operation on February 7th, 2016. The MPM-10 (Montreal Pneumatic Material 2010), also known as the Azur, is currently under production by Bombardier Transportation for the Montreal Metro. A test train was delivered in 2014 and they were originally expected to fully replace the aging MR-63 trains by 2018. The first MPM-10 train entered into service on Line 2 (Orange Line) on February 7, 2016. Nicholas Houde clicked the first train set arriving at Plamondon Station on the Orange Line at Noon time.

UPY 902 is one of four Railpower RP18BD genesis in service out of Yard Center near Dolton, IL (south of Chicago.) Union Pacific is getting 14 of the gensets built on brand-new frames. All are reported to be assigned to Yard Center. (Jody Moore).
Cedar Rapids and Iowa City has several new locomotive and slug sets, built by Relco in Albia, IA. Three of the mothers and four slugs were lined up outside the CR&IC engine facility in Cedar Rapids, IA on April 22, including slug CIC 304 and Relco 1500XD mother CIC 204. Going back from the pair, the new units are CIC 302, 202, 205, 305 and 301 (mother 201 wasn't seen.) The 1500XD units are powered by EMD 12-645E engines, presumably with Tier 0+ upgrade packages, and are built on GP9 frames.
